José Ferrera Mulen is a professional Cuban percussionist and Respected Drummer from Guantánamo, Cuba and is the founder of Norwich Cuban Salsa.
Jose has previously worked in Cuba as a professional Afro-Cuban percussionist and for more than 15 years with Danza Libre, a folkloric group combining music and dance.
José has worked throughout England with Danza Libre and toured all over the country, performing at the WOMAD & Glastonbury festivals and been involved in recordings for the BBC's Radio 3.
Jose has an extensive knowledge of Afrocuban rythms from the West to the East of the island. Jose specializes in Yoruba and Haitian drumming as well as popular music of Cuba including Salsa, the Rumba, the Mambo and especially the Conga. His percussion instruments include the Batar, Tomba, Cahore, Claves, Chekere, Campana and Cata.
Since settling in the East of England, Jose has continued to perform and teach Afrocuban percussions in the UK and in Europe promoting Cuban culture and heritage through music. He's passionate about sharing his love and passion for Cuban rythms and dancing.
